Know About Some Foods Which Can Cause Food Allergy

Food allergies are an exaggerated reaction of the immune system against some food proteins and can be IgE mediated, non-IgE mediated or mixed.

IgE-mediated allergy results from the production of IgE-like antibodies against food.

It is an immediate reaction and symptoms appear within the first 30 minutes or up to 2 hours after contact with food. It can be very serious and life-threatening in a few minutes.

Non-IgE-mediated allergy involves other immune mechanisms, namely other types of antibodies or cells that react against food proteins.

The symptoms are usually digested and it is usually a late reaction, starting more than 2 hours after ingestion of the food, which makes the diagnosis more difficult.

Mixed allergy involves IgE and other immunological mechanisms, such as eosinophilia esophagitis, for example.
